Raspberry and Blueberry Ice Smoothies

Make a delicious and healthy ice berry smoothie treat for kids to help them keep cool and refreshed in the summer months! Great for sneaking in extra fruits and vegetables and keeping them going on those long days and a lovely family activity to do in the kitchen together too!Berry smoothie recipe for kids

With summer (nearly) here it’s the perfect time for making delicious recipes to help keep cool and stay healthy! It’s so much fun to do a cooking activity with the kids and also a great way for them to learn about healthy ingredients and making sensible choices when choosing their own food and drinks. Instead of the high sugar drinks filled with additives and colourings, a frozen fruit smoothie is far more delicious, fresh and healthy, plus takes only a few minutes to make! They are also perfect for experimenting with and coming up with new combinations of flavours and ingredients, testing out their inventing skills!

Ingredients for berry smoothies

We made our smoothies with ingredients from the fridge and freezer and they took just a few minutes to put together.

To make these raspberry and blueberry smoothies you will need:

1 to 1.5 cups of frozen raspberries

1/2 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries

1 carton of natural yoghurt (ours was 200ml)

a handful of granola (store bought or home made)

Making berry smoothies

Tip the ingredients into the jug (we had to take turns for fairness!)

Use a blender or smoothie maker to mix all the ingredients together. We found that we needed to shake up the mix first (lid on!) as too many frozen berries at the bottom made it harder for the blades to rotate .

When fully blended it will be a lovely pink colour. Pour it into glasses or ice cream sundae jars and sprinkle with a large handful of granola. Drizzle a little honey over the top to finish it off if a taste-test finds it needs to be a little sweeter.

Either serve straight away as a drink, or refrigerate/ freeze to eat later with a spoon as a frozen dessert.

The girls had theirs straight away as a tasty dessert after dinner, and still decided to use a spoon to scoop out the granola. It would also make a delicious and healthy breakfast treat!Raspberry and blueberry granola smoothie for kids

What other tasty fruit and vegetables could you add to the mix? I’m thinking we may try a green smoothie next time to get some more hidden veggies into their diet!
