5 A Day Books: Fairy Tales

September 4, 2011 by Anna Ranson

To read all about the 5-a-Day book challenge and consider joining in please read here.

Over the past few months we have begun collecting a great series of little hardback fairy tale books sold by Marks and Spencers for just £3 each! This week Cakie got a few more for her birthday and LOVES them! So the week ahead is going to be full of fairy tales…wonderful!
All of these stories are retold in a very simple fashion, with just enough text as to not miss out any important details! I think they are great fairy tale starters. Cinderella is one of my favourites 🙂

This is Cakie’s absolute favourite and we really need to do a whole series of play activities based around it as she is SO keen! I have ideas coming soon….some are messy!

She loves the pictures of the sweetie house and won’t let us turn the page as she can’t take her little eyes off it! I have always found this story very freaky and way too scary for little ones, but of course they love it. Typical!

 C. was just given some gorgeous wood and fabric finger puppets to go with this story so we will be retelling it by heart using those soon.

Another favourite! We also have this story on CD which is often played at meal times, so C anticipates the repeated refrain and joins in heartily “Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!”
Do you have a post to link up about the books or story crafts you have been sharing in your home recently? Please link up below or comment telling us your 5 choices for the week ahead.

Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your blog, I read it frequently to get ideas to keep my grandchildren entertained.
I really appreciate everyones’ thoughts about the 5 a day books, having a 2 year old grandson who would read nothing but car and train books, if he could, these have helped add variety to our reading.
We have a great library service which enables me to order books from all around Canberra (Australia) and we both look forward to seeing the new ones each week.
Keep up the great work and again, thanks.

I came over here from Lady D’s blog and have never been here before. I love these little books and wish we could get them here in the states! I’m going to read all about 5 A Day Books so I can link in!
