After a trip to the beach where we collected lots of pebbles and shells, we made our very own rock pool sensory small world play scene to continue the fun and learning at home!
- literacy: story telling, retelling and sequencing from familiar stories, vocabulary development
- knowledge and understanding: talk about rock pools, where they are found, what lives in them? Examine shells and pebbles using magnifying glasses
You can buy everything you need to make this small world scene here! (Add some pebbles too!)

Ohhh wonderful – we love that book it’s one of our favourites and have been having lots of fun creating rock pools and animals from it.
It’s great isn’t it?! So rare to find a genuinely brilliant rhyming book. Ticks so many early years reading boxes!
Love the seashells in this sensory activity. We did a similar activity on pond life http://www.brennaphillips.com/frogs-lily-pads-and-cattails-oh-my Also created a pond habitat in the sensory table as well.
Oooo a pond habitat is a lovely idea Brenna!
I really need to get my head around leaving invitations to play… I just find myself side-tracked constantly by small demands… I love this.
I know what you mean! Setting these things up can help with some of those endless demands I find. At least for half an hour here and there!
We made this… and M enjoyed it a lot:
