Diggers in the Mud Sensory Play Tray

April 27, 2016 by Anna Ranson

Put some diggers and construction vehicles in the sensory play table outside for some messy, muddy, sensory play fun! This diggers in the mud sensory play tray is lots of fun for preschoolers and toddlers to explore and can be linked in to favourite vehicle books too.Diggers in the mud sensory play fun for toddlers and preschoolers!

We absolutely love our Tuff Spot (aka builder’s tray) and the versatility if offers for play through its shallowness and width. I bought a stand to put it on last summer and it made such a difference as it has really enabled the play possibilities (plus it can be changes to three different heights which means it will also a long time as they grow!)

We kept it inside all winter and did lots of indoor sensory play and painting while it was cold outside, but now it is back where it belongs and the outdoor sensory and messy play is beginning in full force again!

I had set this tray up with soil, logs, branches and herbs and then added some of our large diggers and trucks to turn it into a construction site. The girls added LOTS more sand and dirt, and then it rained heavily. When we next went out to play it had turned the table into a swamp like mud pit and the play rammed up to the next level of fun!

Baby boy has recently started to love playing with all cars and trucks, and the table is now at a good height for him to reach into. He LOVED this sensory play and was engaged in it for so long.Diggers in the dirt sensory play for preschoolers!

As you can see from his expression and the little mouth shape he is making here, he was making “brrrmmmm” noises and loved bashing the vehicles into the logs, smooshing them through the mud and splashing the water as he went! His enthusiasm encouraged the girls to come and play with him and they had a great time all together, with them making up stories and him simply enjoying rolling the trucks back and forth over and over again.

Simple, natural, sensory play at its best! No purpose or further “learning activity” needed, just PLAY.

Diggers in the mud play table and stand. This is a absolutely wonderful tray and stand. I could see it in my grandchildren’s back yard filled with sand. How do we buy this from USA Amazon?
Thank you for all of your interesting crafts for children!!
