Make an alternative, sugar-free Easter gift for kids with this gorgeous carrot shaped play dough! Perfect for party favours and take home gifts at a spring or bunny themed party too!
At Bean’s 2nd bunny party one of the main take-home gifts were these bags of carrot play dough, tied up with green ribbon.
These would be perfect for Easter too, either as an alternative for those who can’t have chocolate or to form part of the Easter basket treats. They would be sweet for class gifts too and are relatively easy and cheap to make in large numbers.
To make the carrot play dough favours I simply made two batches of our usual no-cook play dough (which takes only a few minutes to make!) and added orange gel food colouring to make it intensely orange.
Then I found some plastic icing bags in the £1 shop and saw that they would make the perfect carrot shape for the dough to be squashed into! I rolled the balls into sausage shapes, dropped each on into a bag then squeezed them down into the tips so they filled the space entirely.
I squeezed out the air and tied them off with some green ribbon (£1 a roll from Tiger.)

That is the best idea and bestest, bestest party favors ever! As always I am soooo inspired by what you do, I can’t wait to do some of that at Easter time.
Adorable idea. I’d love to do this for my grandson. But one question- maybe a dumb one – does the food coloring turn the kids hands orange as they play with it?
hello Margarete, no! cream of tartar (or vinegar or lemon juice) will act as an acidig agent that locks the colouring in so that it doesn’t stain the kids’ hands:)
I have just made different colours of your no-cook playdough recipe. I used two different brands of food colouring, and wow, what a different that makes to the final result!!! I made pink using Silver Spoon and blue using Wilton. The pink Silver Spoon dough is a bit too firm and splits at the edges when rolled BUT the blue Wilton dough is super super soft and smooth, and completely pliable! It also came together almost immediately with hardly any kneading! I looked at the ingredient list on both bottles and noticed the main ingredient in the Wilton colour is glucose syrup, whereas the Silver Spoon is just glycerol, colour, and water. So the perfect dough is definitely influenced by what brand of food colouring you use!
