I’ve chosen some of our stories about love for this week’s theme. They are all gorgeous and personal favourites for one reason or another.
This is unique in its size, layout, concept and fabulous cut-away pages. Cakie loves the pictures of the food (as usual!) It’s a sweet story bout a little mouse who is in love with a giraffe and needs to find a way to reach her to give her a kiss, awwww!
The fabulously well known book was one of the first children’s picture books I ever owned, well over 10 years before I had my own girls. Beautiful illustrations and wonderfully simple exploration of the love between a parent and a child.
Another gorgeous book along the same theme as the previous. A big bear and little bear describe the enormity of their feelings by comparing them to the world around them. I’m smitten with the illustrations too.
This is a very sweet American story which likens the various manifestations of love to different scenarios in cookie baking! So sweet and charming with beautiful pictures of families and pets.
Our last choice has almost no text at all, apart from the repetitive word “hug” throughout. It’s about a little monkey BoBo in search of his mummy and the sadness he feels until he is reunited. Heartwarming and very relatable for young children.

Thanks for the book recs Anna! I’ve not come across Never Too Little To Love before… One of our favourite books about love is So Much by Trish Cooke – a wonderful story about all of the different ways that a baby’s family show him that they love him Soooo Much!
“Hugs” is one my all time favorites. Another one about “love” that I love is “Little Gorilla.” Everyone loves little gorilla, until one day he starts to grow, and grow, and grow, and he is BIG! But everybody comes and everybody sings, and they still love him. So reassuring for little ones, and they relate on so many levels. It’s not a book parents typically think of when asking for recommendations for soon to be big brothers and sisters, but it’s one I always mention, because it (subtly) addresses the feelings and questions some older siblings sometimes have- “Will everyone still love me as much, now that there is a new baby?”
The Melrose and Croc stories are just about the most romantic we’ve come across. SO, so lovely.

What a great idea. I’ve been doing the “10 minutes a day” program recommended here in Australia with my 13mo – 5 books a day is a lot more than that but clearly achievable from your info.
