Snow Puffy Paint Recipe

November 18, 2014 by Anna Ranson

Make some glorious Winter art with this sparkly, snow puffy paint recipe! Using shaving cream and white glue, this paint dries thick and puffy without needing to be heated in a microwave, and looks really effective in art projects! Add in some vanilla essence for a beautiful scent too!Snow puffy paint recipe

We’ve been exploring texture and form with this sparkly, snow puffy paint recipe which is so much fun for young kids to use in all Christmas and winter art projects (and beyond of course!)Snow puffy paint activity

Snow Puffy Paint Recipe: (air dries)

Combine 1/2 cup white glue (PVA/ runny school glue) with 1/2 cup of shaving cream in a bowl and mix together until it looks like thick, whipping cream.

Sprinkle over lots of silver glitter and stir through. Done!

2-3 drops vanilla extract for added sensory bonus!Snow puffy paint snowman

We experimented with this snow puffy paint alongside white chalk and oil pastels on chalk paper, and Miss 2 loved this part of the art experience.

The older girls wanted to create snowmen and snowflakes, and used dark or blue card as their backdrop to paint onto. Snow puffy paint snowflakes

We found that if you dollop the paint onto the card in large scoops, it looks even more effective as it can be piled up to increase volume and thickness. It doesn’t run or lose its shape, and when left to dry flat without being touched overnight, it keeps its puffiness and feels (and looks) wonderfully tactile.

They added cut card shapes for the details on top of the paint while it was still wet and these dried on and stuck firmly in place. They also sprinkled more glitter over the top which made it super sparkly and wondrous!

You can dye this in the mixing stage using gel food colours, to change the theme or explore a range of colourful options!

I tried this today, it’s fab! I also mixed through a blob of glow-in-the-dark paint, so now when the lights are out, our snowman has a faint glow to him too, just like moonlight on snow!
