Make some beautiful flower print art using nature for inspiration and as a paintbrush! A perfect Spring Art Activity for kids to do in the classroom or at home.
I recently received a lovely bunch of flowers for my birthday from my friend and of course, after a week or so, the stems began to droop over even though the flowers themselves were still intact. It seemed such a shame so I cut them right down near to the flower heads and was going to present them to the kids for chopping and disecting (another fun thing to do with wilting plants!) but instead decided to try some printing!
I set out a range of colours of paint on a paper plate and put one flower into each to encourage them to keep the colours separate and therefore clean.
I also set out plenty of large sheets of white art paper as I had a feeling they would enjoy creating on a large scale many times over, and the truly did!
Miss 6 is industriously creative at the moment and will spend long stretches of time busily making by herself. She really loved this art activity and stayed longer than all of the others, coming back to it again later to try a new approach too!
Some used the flowers to create a shape or picture itself, with the flower prints forming the lines and solid blocks of shape.

Other times they explored the effect of layering the various colours of flowers on top of each other, slightly overlapping so that the colours would all show through. I really love the finished results of these layered prints particularly! 
There is just so much you could do with this simple, yet beautifully effective art experience! You could print individual thank you or birthday cards, make wrapping paper and gift tags, use them to decorate art books and journals or as a starting art prompt to then add pen and ink to as well.
Indeed that is what Miss 8 tried with her version, adding lots of stems and leaves with pen to her finished prints!
