Invitation to Create with Autumn Treasures

October 12, 2015 by Anna Ranson

Set up a beautiful Invitation to Create with Autumn treasures, glitter glue and sequins to create some lovely Fall decorations! A simple and inviting Autumn art activity for kids of all ages to enjoy (grown ups too!)

Invitation to decorate Fall treasures with glitter and sequins!

If you follow me over on Instagram you’ll know that I often share photos of the little Invitations to play and create that I set up for my little ones after nursery and school. A couple of weeks ago we collected some Autumn natural treasures on a walk at the park and, together with some adorable mini pumpkins I found at the supermarket, we used them to set up the simplest ever creative art prompt.

Into a plastic serving tray went mini pumpkins, conkers (chestnuts), pine cones, leaves, gold glitter glue and silver star sequins.

Painting Autumn treasures

Miss 3 was the first to enjoy decorating the natural materials, covering as much of the blank canvases as she could with the golden glitter glue. Incidentally, if you’re not a fan of glitter because of the mess, then glitter glue is a must for you. It contains all of that sparkly wondrousness in one place and doesn’t wander around the house! The bigger girls wanted to play too when they got home so we added more materials including some sticks and twigs too. You should have a try as well- it’s very therapeutic!

The finished art pieces are so beautiful and look gorgeous decorating the table for Autumn. Painting natural Autumn materials with toddlers

Come and follow me on Instagram for daily play and learning ideas!

What they are learning as they play:

science: naming and describing natural materials such as types of leaves

creativity: combining media to make 2D and 3D art
