Make a DIY My Little Pony small world play scene in a cardboard box for hours of magical, imaginative play for your little ones, for just pennies! Wonderful for storytelling as well as being a great way to contain all of those little themed toys together in one, tidy place and to take as an on-the-go small world play scene!
One of the things I secretly love about having girls is some of the toys they enjoy playing with, especially those that I secretly wanted myself when I was young! My girls have been collecting these mini My Little Pony blind bags with a gorgeous array of brightly coloured, shimmery or glittery ponies in the sets. The problem with all these tiny toys is that they seem to spread and relocate across the whole house and quickly get lost.
[These are the types of blind bags we buy from the supermarket and/or Amazon in order to find these tiny ponies. They are usually around £2 but sometimes seem to retail for much more when they are hard to find!]
To keep them all together, ready for play at a moment’s notice, and to provide an exciting and magical small world play scene for them all, I made them something really simple using a shoe box and pieces of cardboard.
First of all I cut some long rectangles and painted them with rainbow stripes. Then I painted the inside of a show box with blue paint to represent the sky, and added white cloud shapes on top once that was dry.
Once dry, I stuck some cotton balls onto the clouds and added some pale blue glitter glue around the edge of each cloud shape to make them all sparkle!
I curved the rainbow strips and then arranged them in balanced arches inside the box, and stuck them securely to the sides with a hot glue gun.
Then it was all ready to play with! We went around the house to find as many My Little Pony figures as we could and arranged them in their new magical rainbow world.
The girls love it and played with it straight away, making up little stories with the characters. It’s not a huge small world play scene so it’s best when used by one or two children at a time, although it could be made twice the size if a cardboard box was used instead.
Once play is over, simply pop the shoe box lid back on and store all of the ponies inside so that they can all be found again easily. This would make a great DIY gift for a My Little Pony lover, and is fantastic for travel or entertaining kids in a restaurant, hospital or waiting room too!
