Make this fabulously fun ice cream craft for kids using DIY scented, air-drying puffy paints!
This is a fun idea for a summer themed ice cream craft for kids to enjoy using cardboard and homemade, scented puffy paints. These ice creams would be a fantastic display or decoration for a party too.
We recently made three differently scented puffy paint recipes and then used them to make these giant ice creams together! We made raspberry scented puffy paint, lemon scented puffy paint and chocolate scented puffy paint using just a few basic ingredients. [Click the links to read each individual recipe and see how easy they all are!]
The girls cut out some large triangular shapes from cardboard, then drew criss-crossing lines onto them using brown oil pastels, to represent the ice cream cones. They each used three, large pieces of white card to make the balls of ice cream, and onto each one they scooped a large dollop of the raspberry, lemon and chocolate puffy paints.
They left them to dry for a number of hours and then stuck them together so that they overlapped slightly, using glue.
These were then stuck onto the cardboard ice cream cones and displayed! They’re like giant scratch and sniff stickers- Yum yum!
What they are learning as they play:
sensory: using all the senses when playing and creating, exploring scents and textures
creativity: mixing media, using homemade materials to create art, imaginative play
