It’s that time of year again! Valentine and heart activities are popping up everywhere. You’ll soon be deciding if you want to make Valentine cards or use store bought cards.
We usually make Valentine cards for the kids at school, something that can easily be made multiple times. I think my favorites so far where the “You Color my Heart” Valentine Cards we made a few years ago. They were a great way to get creative AND inspire creativity.
This year we started with Valentine Cards for the kids teachers.
What you need: white cards (I bought a card and envelope set from the craft store but you could easily use white construction paper), paint, potatoes, carrots, paper plates and a knife for creating the heart shape.
Cutting a heart into the vegetables is actually pretty easy. Starting with a large V shape I cut the bottom of the heart, then formed the top. Tip: The stamps will show up better if you make sure the cuts are deep. This will help the little ones avoid getting paint on the edges.
Squirt out paint onto paper plates. Let your artist dip the potatoes and carrots straight into the paint OR use a paint brush to coat them with paint.
All that’s left is to stamp away! Tip: Keep a spare sheet of paper close by for stamping excess paint off before stamping on the actual card.
For more fun, bring the Valentine cards back out when the paint has dried. Use thin tip markers or pens to write words and cute swirly designs over the hearts.
