5 A Day Books: Week 8: Transport
I really enjoyed theming our choices last week (Pirates!) and have loosely based the 5 for this week around the theme of transport. Cars, trucks, trains, aeroplanes, boats, rockets, submarines, bicycles all turn up in picture books often, so the choice was rich for the picking!
This is a brand new favourite in our home. Particularly popular because of the party scene on the beach, complete with balloons and lots of delicious food (two of Cakie’s favourite things!) It has a great rhyming structure and some repeated refrains and noises to join in with, making it a great book for partial memorisation.
The duck stories were favourites from my teaching days! This is the original (and the best in my opinion) and its rhyme is so easy to predict and complete.
This is another from the series and is just as silly and funny as the first. Bad duck needs to learn a thing or two about responsibility and good friendship! It’s great for discussion points about behaviour and problem-solving what the “right thing” would be to do. More fabulous rhyme too!
We love Maisy right now and this lovely story is very simple, short and sweet. Perfect for a 5-a-day title.
We are re-visiting this story again as it is just such a firm favourite, very unique, repetitive, rhyming and contains some transport too! “The cat from Spain flies an aeroplane!” If you like cats you will love this book.
Over to you! What wonderful books have you been reading recently? Have you done some crafts or activities related to a favourite story?
