String Printing

For this activity we used a long piece of string, a few colours of ready-mix poster paint and some paper.

I squeezed some paint, one colour at a time, onto a plate. Cakie dipped the whole length of the string into it and pushed it around a little to make sure it piked up lots of paint.

She lifted it out and let it drop onto her paper.

I helped her push it down a bit to make sure the paint transferred to the paper, but if you get enough paint on the string you don’t really need to do this.

She repeated this using lots of different colours that she chose herself. The plate began to look more like this :-)
Ta da!

And here a couple of the results! (we did at least 4 or 5 by popular demand.)

Little works of bright and colourful abstract art!

These look particularly fabulous on a large scale, so if you happen to have some warm weather or a large floor space, try doing this with long pieces of string, ribbon or cooked spaghetti over some large sheets of paper, taped together at the back. And don’t worry about the mess :-)

This is really fun for little hands – so tactile and pretty. Will give it a go with Pip! Thank you for linking up to Kids Get Crafty!
